THERMAL INSULATION

Details

For optimum energy efficiency from foundation to roof, specify Dow Styrofoam™ and Dow Tuff-R™ thermal insulation for your next building project. Ideal for both commercial and residential builds, Dow Styrofoam™ and Dow Tuff-R™ can help curb escalating energy bills, reduce a buildings carbon footprint and provide a more comfortable indoor environment for the life of a building.

In the demanding conditions of today’s building and engineering projects, Dow Styrofoam™ blue extruded polystyrene boards can deliver the thermal performance and strength you require. The process of extruding foamed polystyrene results in a material with uniformly small, closed cells, a smooth ‘skin’ and an unrivalled set of properties which make it the preferred choice of specifiers.

The benefits of Dow Styrofoam™:

  • Low thermal conductivity – minimising the board thickness needed to achieve a specific R-Value, thus allowing the designer greater flexibility
  • High compressive strength – in load-bearing applications, the closed cell structure gives the foam great rigidity and makes it highly resistant to compression
  • Low water absorption – Styrofoam™ has natural resistance to rain, snow, frost and water vapour which makes it an exceptionally stable material, which retains its initial insulation performance and physical integrity in exposed conditions over the very long term. It was this unusual property that made the inverted warm flat roof concept possible, an idea pioneered by Dow.
  • User-friendliness – Styrofoam™ is easily worked with normal hand tools
  • Hygiene Styrofoam™ boards have low susceptibility to rot, meaning mould or fungal growth is minimised. They are clean, odourless and free from irritating dust.

Dow Tuff-R™ insulation sheathing consists of a high-insulating value, closed cell polyisocyanurate foam core sandwiched between a choice of durable exterior facers. On Tuff-R™ insulation, one facer is a continuous sheet of aluminium foil; the other is a Tri-Plex facer consisting of a three-ply laminate of durable kraft with aluminium foil on both sides. Where additional durability is required, Super Tuff-R™ is a product of choice.

 Benefits of Dow Tuff-R™:

  • Choice of durable faces depending on design requirements
  • Low water absorption - Aluminium foil facers help reduce air penetration and water vapour intrusion
  • Ease of installation – Boards of Tuff-R™ are easy to handle, cut and install. The lightweight boards can be cut with a knife or any sharp blade.
  • No Ozone depletion potentialTuff-R™ insulation products are manufactured with hydrocarbon blowing agents, which have no ozone depletion potential and is Green Star compliant.

Each building project has its own unique combination of insulation requirements and developing an insulation project specification can be a time consuming process.
